Another sister act at Wimbledon

Elena Dementieva

Elena Dementieva

For the second year in a row, Serena and Venus Williams made the finals at Wimbledon. The way they did that could not have been more of a contrast. Venus beat the number 1 in the world Dinara Safina with 6-1 6-0, in 51 minutes. Yes, Safina played awful but Venus played outstanding tennis only hitting 1 unforced error in the whole match. At Roland Garros she produces those every game!

The match between Serena Williams and  Elena Dementieva was a true classic though, that lasted 2 hours and 49 minutes. The longest semi-finals ever at Wimbledon. Dementieva played one of the best matches in her career and from her normal serve or nerve problems nothing was seen yesterday. Dementieva won the first set 7-5 and looked very close to winning at 5-5 in the second but the set went to Serena with 7-5. At 5-4 in the third set Elena had a match-point but she hit a ball directly at Serena who was standing at the net and volleyed it away easily. That was Dementieva’s last chance and Serena was able to win the last set with 8-6. Her serve was the key, hitting 20 aces!! To beat Venus though she has to even play better then she did today. I hope both sisters both bring their A-game during sister act for a change.
