No gay pride in Belgrade, Serbia

The highly anticipated gay pride in Belgrade did not take place yesterday. The organizers canceled because of threats from right-extremist groups. According to police the groups would use stones and molotov-cocktails. In the days prior to the planned event anti-gay messages were seen on buildings all across Belgrade. The parade would have had 1000 participants and was the first since 2001. It was also seen as a test in how far Serbia would fit with the EU.

I think Serbia does not belong to the EU, because they are clearly not civilized enough. The EU is big enough and does not need backwards countries like that.
