US Open day 1

It was a day that mostly went according to ranking with a few small upsets here and there. Only seeded players  Sybille Bammer and  Kaia Kanepi lost. Bammer just came from a victory against Serena Williams a few weeks ago but had a tough draw with Martinez Sanchez. Luckily my favorite Kim Clijsters won her first round easily against Viktoria Kutuzova, but next up for her is Marion Bartoli so that might be tricky. Venus Williams had a rough first night at Flushing Meadows playing Vera Dushevina. After three games Venus already needed an injury time-out for her knee but she kept on going. Both girls played pretty decent but Dushevina impressed with her mighty forehand. After losing the first set 6-7 and being down 4-5 an early exit seemed to be in the cards for Venus but she picked up her game, started serving fantastic and won 7 games in a row. Got a little tight in the end but won 6-3 in the final set.
